About Digital West Networks

The Digital West story

Digital West Networks™ was started by Tim Williams in 1998 out of a closet on Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo, California. Previously, Mr. Williams managed a local Internet Service Provider (ISP), where he increased their customer base from 1500 users to over 4000 users in 2 years. In 1998, most local ISPs offered only consumer grade connectivity, and too often secure electrical power back up was unavailable. Initially Digital West offered ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) broadband connectivity and Unix based Web Hosting. It included Battery + Generator Backup Power and Digital West personnel coverage via phone 24/7/365. With the Dot.Com tech phenomenon erupting, the central coast business community quickly recognized the value of "Commercial Grade" services and readily adopted Digital West Networks' services.

In 2000 Digital West Networks made a strategic shift to focus on Hosting and HiCAP Access service products (T1 and Higher). They would no longer be considered an ISP. Instead Digital West Networks offered "Commercial Grade" connectivity to ISPs and other businesses, large and small.

In 2000, Mary Rafferty joined Digital West Networks, providing additional hosting expertise and Microsoft based server operating capabilities. In 2001, Digital West incorporated as Digital West Networks, Inc. Later that year, Josh Richards was added to the team, bringing his expert network engineering capabilities.

Digital West grew its subscriber base from just a few initial Access and Hosting customers to nearly 1000 hosted domains within 3 years. By 2002, there was a clear local need for Colocation and Dedicated Hosting services combined with business grade secure Internet Connectivity. Digital West had already begun to serve these markets in their current facilities on Sacramento Street. However, in 2005 Digital West achieved the next major milestone, putting the final touches on a new "World Class" Internet Data Center in San Luis Obispo. With redundant power and connectivity, data-grade fire suppression, seismic sensitive design, and 2000 square feet of monitored air conditioned space, Digital West offers services to local business customers that are normally found only in larger metropolitan markets.

With the new data center and solid technical team on-board, Digital West Networks, Inc. has assured their future success as a "Commercial Grade" provider of various Internet based services.
